About Education Ministry

Our Philosophy

Support our partners in providing quality education for children living on Mount Meru.

The Diocese of Meru operates 12 schools within the Diocese of Meru. The diocese has a strong philosophy of investing in their children, youth, and young adults. The education system in Tanzania is patterned after the British system.

Primary School is mandated by the government which Includes seven grades called Standards 1 through 7.  Students who pass a national exam after Standard 7 are allowed to apply to secondary school, although secondary school is not mandated by the government.  Unlike government operated primary schools, the diocese pre-primary and primary schools teach all subjects in English. This difference gives students a head-start in secondary school where the government requires all subjects to be taught and tested in English.

Tanzania’s secondary schools include a four-year “Ordinary” level, and some secondary schools  include two more years of study called “Advanced” level. All secondary grades are referred to as Forms 1 through 6, roughly similar to U.S. grades 7-12.  Diocese of Meru secondary schools follow the nationally mandated curriculum, in addition to religion and morals.

The Diocese of Meru operates three vocational training centers. These schools offer training in a variety of trades and non-degreed vocations including hospitality, tailoring, masonry, auto repair, electrical services, secretarial services, and many others.

Secondary schools and vocational training centers have large gardens, and some animals, that supplement student diets and teach sustainability skills.

Diocese of Meru schools are a fountain of faithful Christian students who are eligible for universities and colleges, imbued with the knowledge of how to serve the church and society. They are more than just places of learning; they provide a foundation and a future. Here dreams are nurtured, and tomorrow’s leaders are born.”
